3Message from the PresidentTEPSC’s efforts to achieve the SDGsAdopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are common goals for the global community. They consist of 17 goals and 169 targets to achieve a sustainable world by 2030. Environmental problems may arise from any social or economic activity of humans, and the SDGs underpin the importance of solving closely related economic, social, and environmental problems in an integrated manner.As a public interest organization engaged in environmental projects and services, TEPSC will contribute to the achievement of the SDGs through its activities, such as by supporting and promoting environmental initiatives by the residents and businesses of Tokyo that will lead to their realization, and by playing a pivotal role in partnership and collaboration with various entities.Since its establishment in 1962, TEPSC has worked together with the government to solve diversifying environmental problems, initially focusing on the eld of waste and in recent years expanding its business to include measures against global warming, protection of the natural environment, and surveys and research.With the Paris Agreement coming into effect and the establishment of the SDGs, the momentum to pursue sustainability is rapidly spreading on a global scale, and Tokyo has to play a leading role as an environmentally advanced city.As a policy partner of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG), TEPSC will continue to take the various environmental issues surrounding Tokyo seriously and make full use of its expertise and frontline capabilities to solve them, with the goal of “realizing a Zero Emission Tokyo that will contribute to achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050,” as declared by TMG.Besides, we will strive to strengthen our governance through fair and sound management of the organization and aim to become a corporation that can garner greater trust from the residents and businesses of Tokyo.I would like to ask for your continued suggestions and cooperation in this endeavor.Norio YamagishiPresidentTokyo Environmental Public Service CorporationSmart EnergyEnergy-saving measuresIntroduction of renewable energyUse of hydrogen energyHeat management measuresNatural EnvironmentSustainable Resource UseThree Rs and Respect for the Earth's ResourcesEnvironmental LearningMaking use of facilities,regional features, and knowledgeTransforming our worldResearch Institute for Environmental ProtectionStudies and research to bring about benecial changes and improvements tothe urban environmentDevelopment of volunteerhuman resourcesMaintenance and management of nature conservation areas
